Washington, D.C.

ABOUT
This course provides a means to see the African American experience in the United States through a different lens and provides a critical and contextualized chronological survey of African American history and culture. We will examine how the community responded to and was affected by the political, cultural, and social changes. Students will spend several days exploring the new National Museum of African American History and Culture and other points of interest in the National Mall in Washington D.C. The exhibitions move from "Slavery and Freedom" to "A Changing America." Students will learn about the development of the culture by use of readings, visual artifacts, documents, media and personal accounts from early culture to the 21st century.
